"Are you sure you'll be alright? It's dangerous traveling on your own, you know." Eri glanced up at her father for a moment, nodding with a sigh. "I'll be fine," she promised. "As soon as I reach New Bark Town, i'll ask for a Pokemon. I'll be perfectly fine until then. I can take care of myself." She continued lowering her belongings into her bag, packing items which would be essential on her journey. Clothing, food, a canteen, her toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush... Eri's father smiled faintly. "Your room won't fit into that little bag. You might want to leave some of that stuff behind." Eri laughed. "Or maybe I just need a bigger bag." Eri's father shook his head, shielding his worry from his daughter. "It can't be too much bigger, or you'll fall right over. You can't just travel around with a backpack that's bigger than you are."
Eri paused, eyebrows furrowed as she looked up at her father once more. "Are you calling me little?" she accused. The look of horror was present upon her father's face as his eyes widened. He was well aware of the wrath that would befall him, if he didn't think of something quickly. "N-no, of-of course not! The new backpacks they've been making are just so huge... I-I can't even carry them!" Eri's glare remained for a few moments, before she turned back toward her bag, removing a few items from it. She was silent as she did so, not completely satisfied with her father's answer. He wasn't exactly the best at words, so she decided to cut him some slack. Still, though, he should have known by now not to bring up anything relating to her size.
It wasn't long before Eri's mother entered the kitchen, tissue in hand. Eri could clealy see that she had been crying. Wonderful... Her mother simply stood still, glancing at her backpack before beginning to sob again. "I-i'm going to miss you so much. It won't b-be the s-same here without you." Eri sighed once more, a pang of guilt present within her. She didn't want to see her mother like this. She wanted her mother to be here, supporting her, like her father was, not balling her eyes out. It was making Eri feel as if she was doing something wrong, when sh knew she wasn't. Lifting her bag, Eri turned to face her mother and father, a smile planted upon her face. At this point, her father was comforting her mother, their arms wrapped around one another.
"Don't worry about me mom. I'll come back to visit whenever I can," she stated. "Besides, what kind of way is this to send me off on my journey? I want to think about how happy you were for me, not how sad you were because of me leaving." Her mother nodded, wiping tears from her cheek. Eri walked over toward her parents, embracing them in a hug. "You'd just better be careful," her mother said. "Dad and I have already gone through this," she reassured. "She'll be fine. She's not a little girl anymore." Eri's father nodded at her, hugging her once more., in which her mother followed. "Just know that if you ever need anything, you can always come back to us." Through one last sob, her mother said her goodbye.
Adjusting the backpack over her shoulder, Eri walked toward the door. "I love you mom, dad. Wish me luck." With a final wave from both sides, Eri stepped out of the door. The gravel crunched under her shoes as she walked down the road leading from her home. It was a familiar sound, a welcoming sound, as she had done so many times before. As she continued, she began to wander what it would sound like, at wherever she was going. The sights would be different for sure, but could minuscule things such as the sound of crunched gravel really mean anything? What about the trees, would they look different? Would the air smell different? What, exactly, was Eri getting herself into? With an unsure shrug, Eri continued about her way, heading toward her first destination; New Bark Town.
