She tore across the lawns her little legs carrying her as fast as she could possibly run. Damn. Why did she have to sleep in! She was definitely getting a new alarm clock! Why did it have to fail? Her eyes flicked to the watch on her wrist, she was twenty minutes late. There was absolutely no point in going to lessons now. Mei-Mei stopped abruptly in her tracks skidding slightly on the frosty earth. It was just typical, and now she needed to think of an excuse, and a convincing one at that. She wasn’t usually such a trouble maker which meant the teachers had a higher probability of believing her lame-o excuse.
She only hoped none of the other teachers had spotted her, she’d be done for if they did. But what could she do now? She could hardly walk back into the main building, she’d probably get caught. Mei-Mei shivered at the thought. Her grandmother would have a heart attack if the teachers wrote home, then the old bat would waste no time in dragging her home and sending her to a different school. Mei bit her lip worriedly; she didn’t want to go to a different school; not so late in the semester. Not to mention she could hardly leave Addy and Eliza.
Her eyes wandered to the impressive collection of tall oak tree’s that led the way into the vast forested area. Well if she wasn’t going to go to class she might as well do something productive. She huddled in her winter coat and pulled on her gloves. It was getting colder, and there was no way she was getting a cold. Breathing in for luck, she eyed the white air that escaped her lips, it really was cold. Taking the first step forward, Mei smiled serenely as she followed the old knackered trail. For a moment she could believe she was in a fairytale of some sort following the trail to some magical land. Closing her eyes she could almost believe it was real. Almost.
Further, and further she followed the path. Occasionally she'd stray and her eyes would find a new path to forge. The trees were growing closer together now, thicker. Biting her lip softly Mei turned in the direction she'd once came. Oh great. She was lost. No - no! She wouldn't admit that. She wasn't lost, this was just an adventure. The wind whistled a shrill song it was getting colder, either that or her imagination was growing wilder.
