Leke Amirmoez glanced down at his watch. He still had three hours before he had to be at school. His wife was still asleep and so was his sone. They could rest a bit longer. He showered quickly and got dressed, making sure that his tie was secure, using a bit of tape on the loose end. He woke his family and in several minutes, the three of them were praying. After the first of the five mandatory prayers, Leke left his wife and son to attend to their own morning schedule while he went and make breakfast. He wasn't much of a cook, but oatmeal and coffee was easy to make. By the time the others came down, the food was already set out on the table and they enjoyed a peaceful morning meal together with the sun rising outside.
Leke left for work early. He was assigning a large project that day and wanted to be over prepared for it. The drive to the school was dull. He hit all the green lights and traffic was minimal. When he arrived, only a few other teachers were present and students were absent from the corridors. Leke went down to the copy room and made all the copies he would need plus a few extras. One hour before class started. There was a student who wanted to talk with him about his grade. The meeting went well and much was accomplished. The teacher could now put his full attention on preparing for his first class. He set up the powerpoint and organized his desk a little. Fifteen minutes before class and the first student arrived and set her books down.
Finally, everything was in order. The stacks of paper were all neatly lined up on his desk along with his notes for a short lecture. On the board, he wrote "The French Revolution". They were starting a new unit. He had prepared outlines for the lectures in addition to the reading homework. The bell rang and Leke waited for the class to quiet down a little before starting.
"Good morning class and happy Monday! I hear that the basketball team did well yesterday. Score was 35-18, yes?" A few students nodded their heads. "Track season starts soon, that's exciting. Any of you planning on trying out?" A couple hands went up briefly. "There was an orchestra concert on Saturday, how was that?" A girl in the back of the classroom said that the concert went very well. "So, anything else exciting happen over the weekend?" He called on students as they raised their hands, allowing each one time to say something and asking for clarification from time to time. Even though this was an AP class, the day's agenda wouldn't take the whole class period.
