What was worse was that Toni didn't even like his Algebra class and only sat through it because he simply had no other choice, goodness how he always despised math classes, for as long as he could remember they had been the bane of his existence. The Spaniard just didn't have a head for numbers, he was the fanciful sort after all, music, dance, art, those were his things, cold hard numbers were not his forte in the slightest. But because the boy knew he had to do better in the subject, as a C average was unacceptable considering how adamant his family was that he do the absolute best he could, Toni had brought the heavy devil of a book with him to the cafe in hopes of getting some study time in while he had his saturday morning coffee. It was a ritual of his, saturday mornings always found him at the cafe, sipping a nice hot cup of cafe con leche, munching on some pastry and nose in a book according to whatever class was giving him trouble that past week. Finally getting to the register he ordered his coffee along with a muffin, made eyes at the pretty girl behind the counter and chuckled gently when she flirted back, cheek tinged red. Attempting to balance the coffee along with the muffin and the giant book of unabashed evil Antonio threw the cashier girl one last dazzling smile and made his way to his favorite little booth seat with plush chairs right beside the window. Only there seemed to be a problem, someone had decided to take his seat. No no this was no good at all, it must have been someone new because ever since he found the place in his first year at the school he had claimed that seat as his, and the first time he had nearly thrown someone through the window for giving him back his seat on a saturday morning, everyone knew he was very serious about his claim. Cheerful smile on his face Toni dropped the heavy book on the table with a loud clatter, gently placed the coffee and the muffin beside it and told the kid who looked about his age that he had five seconds to pick up and get out. Unfortunately for the other kid, he didn't heed his warning and instead waved the Spaniard off. Well he had given the other kid a fair enough warning, cracking his knuckles and still smiling that big cheerful smile that dimpled his cheeks Toni grabbed the other boy by the collar, dragged him out of the seat and hauled him to the door, throwing him out the cafe and onto the sidewalk like a sack of bricks. Satisfied, he went back to his seat and sat down, picked up his coffee and had a sip before opening the algebra book and wishing that someone would come by to distract him from this of numbers. Post by Toris Laurinaitis on Mar 6, 2012 23:50:01 GMT -5
Toris Laurinaitis never went out to eat. It was quite a shock to see him walking around the small town on a Saturday morning. His social life was zero. There was no reason for him to be outside even and the boy was definitely out of his element. He was walking slowly, constantly checking over his shoulder and glancing about like everything was going to eat him. One of his classmates saw Toris and called out in greeting, but the Lithuanian was too scared to respond. Another student accidentally bumped up against him in a rush to get somewhere, sending Toris into a major panic. He hastened his stride, but paused before entering the little cafe.
Just as the boy was preparing the walk inside, the door was thrown open by an older student dragging a Freshman out the door and ungracefully dumped in the grass. Toris looked on in fear and horror, vivid images of being threatened to be disowned by his father churning wildly in his mind. That only frightened the Junior more and his hands were sweaty and shaky as he entered. There had been a lot of tests the previous Friday and Toris has been unable to eat Thursday night or Friday. He was starving, literally, but that was all kept inside. He decided to buy something a little special for himself and bought a bottle of water and an orange. It was just enough to keep him alive another day.
His backpack was slung over one shoulder but damn, it weighed a ton. Even with so many tests, Toris wanted to get a head start in all his classes plus he had an Astronomy project to worry about. He had seen many star charts as a boy and decided to replicate the most detailed chart to meet the requirements. He was armed with nothing more than a mechanical pencil, a rubber eraser, and a large sheet of paper folded into quarters in his bag. He carried his food over to a table and set up shop. He didn't realize that it happened to be near to the same senior that had hauled off a Freshman, but Toris had other things to worry about.
He set his book bag down next to the table and unzipped it, pulling out the paper and unfolding it on the table. The paper was almost as large as the table, some of the corner falling off the edges. Toris didn't mind and pulled his pencils and eraser out of his jacket pocket, his favorite green jacket he got from his mother before leaving for the Academy. He took a few moments to bring the image back and with that firmly lodged in his conscious mind, started drawing. He decided to use the inverse of the actual colors so as to use less lead in replicating it. In addition to the exact memory of the chart, all the other sense were engaged as Toris began his work.
Starting in the upper left hand corner, he drew the chart including any text exactly how it was printed. The boy's eidetic memory was proving to be an asset and even planned on putting in the credits since that was at the bottom of the chart. He didn't notice a couple other students at the cafe watching him as he slowly worked. Several constellations were already drawn out and labeled in the exact location as they were on the real star chart. Toris had no idea that such an ability was rare and had so far not even touched his food, opting to work instead. A group started to gather around him, watching in earnest as he drew, impressed by his attention to detail and drawing abilities.
